    Such simple sentences with big messages, each packed with a “punch.”  When I ponder, “be glad,” I realize that I can be glad I was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety with just a tweak of perspective.  Gladness arrives from knowing that my life purpose came through my illnesses.

    Purpose Brings Peacefulness

    It wasn’t until I fully accepted that depression and anxiety was only a part of me that my purpose became clear.  Most importantly, that purpose brings peacefulness.

    Many times, individuals with mental health disorders allow their illnesses to define them.  Their illnesses take over their lives and snuff out their beauty within.  How do I know this?  For years, I too got caught up in the same thought process.

    For the longest time, I wondered what purpose my diagnoses of depression and anxiety had in my life.

    little steps can bring big results

    When faced with an episode of depression, getting back into recovery seems like a giant goal.  Most importantly, realize that little steps can bring big results. I needed to relearn how to sleep, eat, and even concentrate.

    Also, I needed to recover my self-worth, my energy, and my enthusiasm.  This required finding my way back to living the life that depression stole from me.  Just thinking about all these things can be exhausting and downright depressing.

    Make the best of today. Who knows what tomorrow brings?

    When diagnosed with a long-term illness, you learn very quickly that no two days are the same.  The key is to adjust to your new “normal,”  however, do what you can on any given day.  On some days just the basics of life are attainable.  Getting dressed, eating something, and staring out the window is all I can do.
