During winter, some of us wake up to a wintery-white blanket of snow. I bet you want to climb back in bed, snuggle up under your warm covers, and spend the day reading a great novel. That scene would be a personal choice. However, it’s different when consumed by depression and anxiety. The choice of staying in bed, isolated from the world is made for us by our disorders. In other words, it’s time to reinvent yourself.
Today, I get to choose how I will spend my day since I have been able to sustain my recovery for the past 18 years. Therefore, I’ve decided since the snow outside is deep and the temperatures are cold, I’ll spend my day reflecting on how to reinvent my life purpose for 2020.
Here are a number of things I’ll do to get started:
- Identify what I want to accomplish this year
- Evaluate what has worked and what has not worked this past year
- Speak with a few colleagues and friends to brainstorm my new goals
- Identify and prioritize action items to begin this reinvention
- Create a timeline around the action items and goals
- Invite a colleague to become my accountability partner for the next year
- Start by creating the best year yet
Looks like I won’t have much time under the covers in 2020 if I want to fulfill my life purpose.
Reflection Question
What’s your plan for making this year one of your best?
