Wellness Boosters That Make a Difference in Life

I recently presented at a support program for family members of consumers with mental health diagnoses.  The goal of this presentation was to be positive, upbeat, and encouraging. Quite the target to hit. I, therefore, covered three wellness boosters that make a big difference in life.

As the family members gathered, you could see how happy they were to catch up with each other. They were delighted to get out of the house for an afternoon, especially considering the recent cold weather. And pleased to be in a room full of others who understood their circumstances.  We, therefore, were off to a good start.

The program was geared to taking care of themselves—a real welcomed change from taking care of others.

The 3 Wellness Boosters were:

Control What You Focus On
Researchers have studied the impact attitude has on longevity. And found that you can add ten years to your life by focusing for instance, on the positive versus the negative. As a result, cultivating an “attitude of gratitude” can make all the difference in the world.

Adopt Lifestyle Changes that Enhance Wellness
Self-care is a personal issue.  Exercise, nutrition, and restful sleep are three essentials to wellness.  However, small changes in these three necessities over a period of time can lead to big results.

Choose Peace and Contentment
The world is full of simple and free minders. Recognizing that happiness comes from within instead of from possessions and people empowers us. Peace and contentment are ours for the taking.

Reflection Question

What can you do today to implement these wellness boosters in to your life?
