In today’s fast-paced world, it is essential to become a life-long learner. But more important is for you to take what you’ve learned and apply it to your life. So, on that I note, I recently came across surprising book facts that were not only interesting but startling as well. What a difference a book can make.
Hard to believe book facts:
- 33% of high school graduates never read another book the rest of their lives
- 42% of college grads never read another book after college
- 57% of new books are not read to completion
- 70% of US adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years
- 50% of US families did not buy or read a book last year
The more a child reads, the likelier they are able to understand the emotions of others. And to top off the facts: Reading one hour per day in your chosen field will make you an international expert in 7 years!
It’s crucial to read and learn as much as we can about our mental health disorders. Moreover, it’s essential to keep up-to-date with the latest treatments and recommendations for our wellness journeys. New books are showing up weekly on shelves of bookstores and Amazon.
One such book I recently came across is Grain Brain by David Perlmutter, MD. This book has opened my eyes to a new level of understanding of how to take better control of my brain’s health in the future.
David Perlmutter, MD
As Dr. Perlmutter says, “It’s what you do with what you know that’s important.” Tomorrow morning you can count on me to start implementing Dr. Perlmutter’s recommendations. My brain is worth it and so is yours!
Reflection Question
What’s the last wellness recommendation you read and implemented?
