Spring is almost here with warmer temperatures and budding plants and trees. Spring has always reminded me of new beginnings.
After being dormant all winter, spring comes along and brings energy, light, and more life. When my depression and anxiety show up, I lose all my energy, my light-heartedness and my desire to live.
Today, though, my depression and anxiety are nowhere to be seen—thank God. So, I plan to take advantage of the season with its new beginnings and shake out winter from my life.
As I was driving home from the gym this morning, I actually stopped at a local nursery. I picked up some pansies to bring a little life back into my patio planters. Just seeing those flowers with their colorful blooms and bright green leaves brought a smile to my face and a lift to my spirits.
Planting, pruning, and digging in the garden has always provided an avenue of joy for me. Nurturing plants and seeing their growth and vibrancy fills my own life with energy and aliveness. These are two feelings that individuals who struggle with depression and anxiety miss when an episode takes over their lives.
How about you? Have you started to feel the new beginnings of spring?
Why not get outside for a walk and take notice of the fragrance of spring as trees and flowers begin to transform the landscape around you. While you are at it, stop at a local nursery to enjoy the colors of the new season. Begin to shake off winter and welcome the newness of spring. I guarantee you a lift in your spirits and a “spring” in your walk!
