Depression in the Workplace
By Carol Kivler on February 24, 20200As an executive coach, I have clients share their experiences of depression in the workplace. Two, in particular, have brighter endings than others I’ve heard in the past. There are many horror stories of individuals with depression, who could no longer perform their jobs. Depression causes many individuals to receive performance probation.
Winter Woes
By Carol Kivler on February 19, 2020Winter can take a toll on most individuals. As I arrived at my gym this morning, I noticed a lack of enthusiasm in a couple of regulars. So, I took a few minutes to engage in conversation with one woman and one man. We conversed about snow and the cold weather, winter woes. I jumped in with complaints just like the others.
Encouragement and Hope
By Carol Kivler on February 10, 2020Recently, I fielded a call from a worried mother. She believed her 15-year-old son was depressed and didn’t know where to turn. However, she did know that I speak openly about my depression, so she reached out to me. Above all, this mother needed encouragement and hope.
Wellness Boosters That Make a Difference in Life
By Carol Kivler on February 3, 2020I recently presented at a support program for family members of consumers with mental health diagnoses. The goal of this presentation was to be positive, upbeat, and encouraging. Quite the target to hit. I, therefore, covered three wellness boosters that make a big difference in life.
It’s Time to Reinvent Yourself
By Carol Kivler on January 27, 2020During winter, some of us wake up to a wintery-white blanket of snow. I bet you want to climb back in bed, snuggle up under your warm covers, and spend the day reading a great novel. That scene would be a personal choice. However, it’s different when consumed by depression and anxiety. The choice of staying in bed, isolated from the world is made for us by our disorders. In other words, it’s time to reinvent yourself.
Putting the Face of HOPE on Mental Health Awareness
By Carol Kivler on January 20, 2020Recently I had the privilege of speaking to university nursing students during their Psych rotation. I delivered a presentation entitled, “Putting the Face of HOPE on Mental Health Awareness.”
My objective in this program is to provide a consumer’s perspective to incoming healthcare professionals. And also, to instill how they can be the difference. The difference between recovery and giving up in the lives of the patients they treat.
A Glimmer of Social Change
By Carol Kivler on January 13, 2020Recently I attended a delightful evening in the Club House of the community where I reside. We often get together for a light potluck dinner and desserts. However, at this particular event, one of our neighbors facilitated an activity. This helped us get to know each other a little better. By the end of the evening, I detected a glimmer of social change.
