As 2019 comes to an end, take time to reflect on the good, bad, and even the ugly. What Behaviors do you want to leave behind?
Reviewing the past year will help you embrace the new year. At times, everyone’s life appears better than your own. However, if given the chance to uncover the façade most people hide behind, you would realize no one lives the perfect life.
Those challenged by mental health disorders know the ups and downs of life. There are weeks and sometimes months lost battling depression and anxiety. Yet we pick ourselves up and start anew—for as many times as it takes.
So, let’s review this past year. What lessons have you learned? And more importantly, what behaviors do you want to leave behind in 2019? I learned to overcome disappointment by replacing it with an attitude of positivity. I realized things worked out exactly as they are supposed to at the moment in time.
When I didn’t win a proposal, receive the award, or get the book finished, I struggled to come up with a reason. At times the reasons revealed themselves quickly. At other times, I just needed to wait patiently for the rationale to show up.
Now let’s talk about one behavior I want to leave behind in 2019—the ugly behavior of self-doubt. In 2020 when self-doubt rears its ugly head, I want to consciously acknowledge it, call myself on it, and move on.
My motto for 2020 is “When in doubt, reach out to someone who can help me find out.”
